de'sendent named WA's New Restaurant of the Year
de’sendent in Margaret River has taken the 2025 West Australian Good Food Guide Awards by storm, earning the highest rating of three stars and the coveted title of New Restaurant of the Year. Chef and co-owner Evan Hayter said that the award was a testament to de’sendent’s vision, which upholds the elevated farm-to-table philosophy that he and co-owner Ann Spencer had established at winery restaurant Arimia Estate which closed its doors in mid-2023 .“Our vision was clear: open a restaurant in town that maintained the high standard of dining that we had built at Arimia, and to let the produce of our region be the hero,” said Hayter. Celebrating excellence in the hospitality industry, the WA Good Food Guide Awards are renowned as honouring ‘the best of the best’. Venues are assessed anonymously, and the lists are overseen by an expert team of judges comprising of some of the country’s best and most experienced food and drink writers.And according to Hayter, de’sendent is just warming up. “We’ve only been open 12 months. This is just the beginning - watch this space.”
